I understand they are expressing their  joy in a distinct way, i have been in an environment where this is heavily practiced, to the point where it became a tradition. The college/higher institution fraternity system promotes these behaviours which though sub-stream social behaviour but are still anti-human on the long run. I have witnessed the expulsion of a group of six students over
such an incident, and though i am of the opinion that the schools decision to expel the students is rather harsh, i also believe students should understand the barbaric nature of this irradiation.
Take for example a person who intends to harm a given student may cease this opportunity to cause life threatening harm to the Graduating student. it could be an acid bath or a chemical of some sort.
